In Colombia we are very privileged, we have abundant energy resources, especially water, wind and solar radiation, but also gas, oil and coal. The government's goal is to be able to combine all these energy resources in an appropriate way to achieve a sustainable matrix, which allows energy to be generated in the most efficient way and at the lowest possible cost.
One of the main characteristics of photovoltaic energy generation is precisely the lower cost of generation per KW/h, in addition to all the tax benefits and incentives granted by the government in relation to the use of solar energy, as established by Decree Law 1715 of 2014. Renewable generation stations contribute to energy reliability and security by providing energy in critical supply conditions, when there are less water inputs due to low levels of the main water reservoirs in Colombia.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy granted in 2019, through the auction mechanism, 2,250 megawatts in renewable energies, which will allow the incorporation of non-conventional renewable energies by 2024 so that they reach at least 10% of the installed capacity in Colombia, and will be fundamental for the country's energetic transformation.
