ELECTRICAL ENERGY AS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT FACING COVID-19

Today the whole world is in lockdown in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus health crisis. Colombia is no exception, being one of the countries affected by the pandemic. Life, as we used to know, has changed radically, and now the best way to be connected to the outside world is through electronic devices, either for work or to communicate with a family member. Technological tools have become essential for all daily activities: study, work, recreation, communication, and have made it easier for us to stay connected in order to make lockdown bearable.

That is why we must emphasize the importance of having electrical systems and a reliable infrastructure that connects us to the rest of the world.

In a society dependent on electricity, the operation and transport of the electrical systems guarantee the development and operation of a nation, day by day, month by month, year by year; the production of electricity does not stop, and in times of pandemic, although the panorama is critical, energy will continue to play a vital role for our society.



All this deployment, often invisible to most, has made it a little more visible to everyone in this time of isolation. The outbreak of the pandemic has highlighted the absolute dependence that society has on the electrical system and digital technology. At a time when the world is at a standstill, several sectors of industry continue to work against COVID-19. The health care sector, the food industry, telecommunications and electricity are some of the sectors, if not the main ones, that try to stop the spread of the virus.

Today we highlight the importance of electricity, its great impact on humanity. And while it is true that electricity demand has declined in recent months, the electricity sector is demonstrating its adaptability to ensure that a balance is maintained,   as today our homes, hospitals and all the basic and essential services in our society, must have the certainty that electricity will come instantly whenever it is needed to keep us connected
